With SFC Accreditation, CleanMile clients can now calculate and report logistics GHG emissions against industry standards.
Green Bay, Wis., Feb. 23, 2023 — Breakthrough, a leading transportation management technology provider, today announced its CleanMile solution is now accredited by Smart Freight Centre (SFC) in conformance with the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) framework. Designed to inform business decisions and steer efforts to reduce emissions, accreditation by SFC’s GLEC framework is the only globally recognized methodology for harmonized calculation and reporting of the logistics GHG footprint across the multi-modal supply chain.
The transportation sector continues to have the highest CO2 emissions in the U.S. More specifically, scope 3 transportation emissions are notoriously the hardest emissions to track as it encompasses activities throughout the product lifecycle involving suppliers, distributors, and consumers – making it difficult to implement impactful and measurable changes in emissions reduction. With SFC accreditation, Breakthrough’s CleanMile solution is an end-to-end scope 1 & 3 transportation emissions management solution for shippers across all industries, enabling shippers to track, plan, and execute emissions reduction initiatives against the industry standard.
“Data silos continue to hold many organizations back from truly being able to calculate an emissions baseline and act on ESG goals, especially in the transportation industry,” said Jenny Vander Zanden, chief operating officer of Breakthrough. “With this in mind, we created CleanMile to answer the global logistics sector’s need for technology that can accurately help create, execute and build upon meaningful emissions reduction initiatives. With Smart Freight Centre’s recognition, we look forward to further empowering shippers in their pursuit to decarbonize their future.”
Since launching in April 2022, CleanMile has been providing actionable and data-informed recommendations for emissions reduction based on a shippers’ transportation networks and specific sustainability goals. The service provides a detailed picture of a transportation network’s lifecycle emissions, serving as a framework for ongoing emissions calculations. Informed by more than $25B in annual freight spend, CleanMile is the most comprehensive transportation emissions management solution on the market today, helping shippers drive real progress toward corporate sustainability goals.
"Breakthrough's CleanMile solution helps drive transparency and accountability for organizations in this space, making it an ideal partner in our mission of achieving a zero emissions global logistics sector," said Marcus Lomax, Technical Manager at SFC. "We’re proud to endorse CleanMile and look forward to working together to create an efficient and zero emissions global logistics sector."
