This award profiles innovative case study-type projects designed to automate, optimize, streamline and improve the supply chain.
Green Bay, Wis., June 16, 2025 - Breakthrough, a leading provider of sustainable fuel and freight solutions announced that Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive named Breakthrough as one of this year’s Top Supply Chain Projects award winners. This award highlights innovative case study-type projects designed to automate, optimize, streamline and improve the supply chain.
A leading global consumer goods company partnered with Breakthrough to gain greater transparency to their fuel and freight costs and begin their sustainability journey. Breakthrough’s Fuel Recovery solution aligned the company’s fuel reimbursements with real-time, lane-level market-based prices instead of relying on national averages. As part of the supply chain project, Breakthrough also cleaned and organized their transportation data, which set the stage for continuous improvement. Breakthrough’s CleanMile solution calculated a precise transportation emissions baseline and identified practical ways to reduce transportation emissions by up to 20%. These strategies included optimizing carrier selection, shifting transportation modes, and identifying alternative energy sources on a lane-level.
Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics specifically recognized Breakthrough for their work on the leading global consumer goods company’s renewable natural gas (RNG) fleet conversion. Breakthrough acted as an extension of the transportation team, analyzing transportation data to connect them with renewable natural gas (RNG) providers. The team also shared their goals for enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability, and Breakthrough aligned its expertise to support them in achieving these objectives. By seamlessly integrating their solutions, Breakthrough unlocked additional value through greater transparency. This partnership enabled the global consumer goods company to optimize their supply chain. Breakthrough's efforts yielded measurable results, including a 14.8% reduction in five-year ownership costs and a projected 40% emissions reduction through renewable natural gas (RNG) fleet conversions, as they gain enhanced visibility in their transportation network and optimized their supply chain.
"We are honored to receive the 2025 Top Supply Chain Projects award and proud to be highlighted for our dedication to advance sustainability in the supply chain," said John Teggart, President of Breakthrough." This recognition is a reflection of the meaningful partnerships we build with our clients and the granular visibility we provide through our solutions."
"Many of today's supply chain companies are tasked with providing the utmost in visibility. Whether it's tracking reverse logistics, implementing financial software or upgrading sourcing solutions, collaborations and partnerships are what make supply chain projects a success. That's why it's important to celebrate those projects (and partnerships)," says Marina Mayer, editor-in-chief of Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive and co-founder of the Women in Supply Chain Forum.
